Screw Gauge “Slip”.
I. If the screw is rotated but the spindle does not move forward, it is called “slip” or “lost motion”.
II. This is different from Backlash error.
III. It occurs due to worn-out threads.
IV. It indicates that the nut and screw are not engaged properly.
V. Such an instrument should be repaired or discarded as it gives inconsistent readings.
