Comparison of Elastic Properties.
I. Steel is more elastic than copper.
II. Rubber can undergo much larger strains than steel for the same stress (in the elastic region).
III. The area under the stress-strain curve in the loading and unloading cycle represents energy dissipated (hysteresis loss).
IV. Elastomers (like rubber) do not obey Hooke’s Law over most of their extensive elastic range.
V. Glass is a brittle material with a very small plastic region.
